Allowing staff members to connect their mobile phones and tablets to a company network can be a good way for firms to save money.
This is according to head of internet protocol services at Zycko Darran Clare, who said the bring your own device (BYOD) trend can act as an energy-saving initiative for companies.
People will bring in their tablets that have already been charged at home instead of using the office power supply, he stated.
Furthermore, the number of computers that need to be on in the workplace can be reduced if staff members are able to use their own handsets.
Mr Clare said although that may not sound like a great deal, "when you multiply it by the amount of employees that have got their own devices running on battery, that could be seen as a huge cost-saving in energy".
However, companies will have to introduce an effective security system if they want to embrace BYOD, as managing director at Barton Technology Dominic Jones recently noted there are privacy issues to consider.
