LG has developed the world's first full high-definition (HD) LCD screen for smartphones.
The five-inch panel has the highest resolution of any mobile panel to date and will allow smartphone users to watch videos and media in the same quality as on a TV or computer monitor.
Sang-Deok Yeo, chief technology officer and executive vice-president of LG display, said that the latest panel ensures that LG remains ahead of its competitors in display technology products.
"As smartphones become increasingly valued for how well they do multimedia and with the rapid growth of LTE enabling faster large file transfers, our new five-inch full HD LCD panel is certain to prove a significant asset to the mobile market," he stated.
Expected to be released later on in the year, the panel also boasts a rapid response speed when touched and has a brighter light transmission, meaning the screen can be easily viewed while outside.
