Vodafone unveils Booster Brolly

An innovative gadget is hoping to make taking a smartphone to a summer festival a little more hassle-free.

To tackle the problems of low battery and poor signal, Vodafone has unveiled the Booster Brolly, which acts as a phone charger and a micro antenna, which can boost 3G signal wirelessly.

Developed in partnership with University College London, the umbrella has a series of flexible solar panels on its body that can charge a phone and power an LED torch.

Danielle Crook, director of brand marketing at Vodafone, said that the Booster Brolly combines cutting edge technology with the classic British umbrella.

"We wanted to create a practical but high tech innovation that could genuinely improve a festivalgoer's experience," she added.

The eco-friendly product will be trialled at the Isle of Wight Festival and can work with a range of mobile devices, as well as charging a smartphone is just under three hours.
