A new simple-to-use smartphone is to be made available to pay as
you go customers in the UK via T-Mobile.
The operator will offer the Motorola Motosmart without a
contract for £99.99, with the device set to go on sale from the end
of July.
Pocket-Lint noted this is "incredibly cheap" for a smartphone
and should help bring advanced features to individuals on tight
budgets.
Tech Radar added the price of the phone would appear to put it
in direct competition with budget handsets such as the LG Optimus
L3, HTC Desire C and Huawei Ascend G300.
While it is not designed for heavy users who demand the fastest
and most powerful device, it may be useful for those looking for a
simple way to connect to the internet while on the move.
Victoria McManus, marketing director for the UK and Nordics at
Motorola Mobility, explained the gadget may be perfect for those
who want to enjoy the benefits of a smartphone without having to
deal with complex options.
"Simply put, Motosmart makes life easier," she said. "You don't
have to worry about complicated settings and hard-to-follow
instructions. Just turn this smartphone on and get instant access
to the people and things in your life that matter most."
The Motosmart uses the 2.3 Gingerbread version of the Android
operating system and offers features including a 3.5-inch touch
screen and a 3 megapixel camera.
It also features the latest version of Motorola's MotoSwitch
software, which learns what a person's most common activities are,
including the people they talk to the most, their favourite songs
and which apps they are most likely to use.
The phone then saves this information on the home screen, so
users do not have to spend time searching through long lists of
contacts, music and applications to find what they are looking
for.
As the phone runs on Google's Android operating system, owners
also have access to the Google Play app store, which offers over
500,000 programs to help manage a person's life and keep them
entertained.
